Master of Science in Sustainable Development Practice (MDP)
The Master of Science in Sustainable Development Practice (MDP) at Claribel College is an intensive, multidisciplinary, four-semester (full-time) graduate programme designed to prepare current and aspiring professionals to address Jamaica and the Caribbean’s most pressing sustainable development challenges. The programme is practice-oriented and targets individuals working in, or seeking leadership roles within, government, the private sector, civil society, international development, and entrepreneurial ventures. It is offered with full-time and part-time options to accommodate working professionals within six years.
The 36-credit curriculum integrates competencies from the health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and management. A supervised capstone project enables students to design and implement a real-world solution to a development challenge relevant to their profession or community context, with particular attention to Jamaica’s Vision 2030 National Development Plan, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Claribel College is a member of the Global Association of Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) Programs, part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. Through this affiliation, MDP students gain immediate access to an international community of peers, faculty, and alumni across more than 30 institutions in 25 countries worldwide, enhancing global perspectives, professional networks, and collaborative learning opportunities.
Graduates of the programme hold leadership positions in government ministries and agencies, international and regional organizations, development-focused NGOs, the private sector, and have launched social and sustainability-driven enterprises.
The MDP Programme is delivered through live online meetings, allowing participants to engage directly with instructors, mentors, and peers from anywhere in Jamaica or around the world.

- A minimum of two years full-time work experience in sustainable development
- Two references (one from an academic source)
- One recent passport-size photograph in color (within the last six months)

Prior Learning Assessment
Provisions are made for Prior Learning Assessment for the MDP Programme at Claribel College. Accepted forms of Prior Learning Evidence include the following:
- Portfolio assessment
- Professional experience

- Entrepreneurial and community-based learning
- Challenge examinations or interviews (where applicable)
International Students
We invite international students to join our Claribel community of learners. The academic requirements for international students at Claribel College are the same as Jamaican students. Our programmes are delivered via live online sessions, therefore students are not required to obtain a student visa to travel to Jamaica. However, if participating in an in-person college-sponsored activity, then students must apply for and receive the appropriate travel visa (where necessary) to visit Jamaica.
International students whose native language is not English are required to submit TOEFL scores showing that they have a mastery of the Englich language.
Certificate in Development Practice (CDP)
The Certificate in Development Practice (CDP) consists of 15 credits and is designed to attract individuals seeking micro-credentials in the sustainable development field to strengthen their impact in government, NGOs, the private sector, and community-based initiatives. The credits earned in the CDP programme are transferable to the MDP programme. Students are expected to complete this programme within two years.
The MDP Programme is delivered through live online meetings, allowing participants to engage directly with instructors, mentors, and peers from anywhere in Jamaica or around the world.

Short-Term Certificate Programmes
Our short-term Level 2 Certificate programmes are delivered through live, interactive, instructor-led, online classes, enabling real-time engagement with faculty and peers across Jamaica, the Caribbean, and the global community. No prior academic credentials or work experience are needed for the short-term certificate programmes. However, prospective students should be at least eighteen (18) years of age and are required to submit proof of this along with the following:
- Complete and submit the online application
- Submit one passport-size photograph
- Submit a copy of a government-issued identification
All-Natural Artisan Product Development
Jamaica’s tourism industry is evolving as visitors increasingly seek authentic, wellness-focused, and culturally rooted experiences. The 12-week Certificate in All-Natural Artisan Product Development at Claribel College prepares aspiring artisans including youth entrepreneurs to meet this growing demand through hands-on training in product creation, branding, marketing, and small business development.
Participants learn to create high-quality all-natural products such as soaps, lotions, and essential oils, while gaining practical skills to position these products for the tourism and hospitality sector, the wedding industry, and specialty gift markets. The programme supports sustainable, community-based enterprise development.

Applied Data Analytics
The Applied Data Analytics certificate course at Claribel College is a structured, competency-based continuing education programme designed to develop applied analytical skills relevant to professional practice across disciplines. Delivered over 10 weeks, the course equips participants with practical knowledge in data acquisition, cleaning, analysis, visualization, and interpretation using industry-standard tools. No prior coding experience is required.
Through guided instruction, hands-on exercises, and a capstone project, participants demonstrate the ability to apply analytical methods to real-world datasets drawn from business, public policy, health, and environmental contexts. Emphasis is placed on ethical data use, problem-solving, communication of findings, and evidence-based decision-making.

Artificial Intelligence Practice
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work, learn, and do business. In this 12-week programme, participants explore practical AI tools, generative AI, and real-world applications in business, education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. You will also learn how to evaluate AI ethically, understand its limitations, and make informed decisions about when, and when not to use AI. By the end of the course, participants will gain the confidence and skills to engage with AI thoughtfully, improve productivity, and communicate AI concepts clearly in your workplace or community, critically assess AI systems, identify opportunities and risks, and propose responsible AI-enabled solutions relevant to your academic discipline or professional field.

Bridge to Success Career and Personal Development Programme for Youth
Do you know a young adult who is trying to figure out their next move? The Bridge to Success: Career and Personal Development Programme for Youth is an interactive 6-week programme designed to help young adults gain clarity, confidence, and direction for their future.
Through guided self-discovery, career exploration, mentorship, and practical life-skills training, participants identify their passions, explore career pathways, and build essential communication, etiquette, and professional readiness skills. The programme features peer learning, group activities, and one-on-one mentoring in a supportive environment that prepares participants for long-term success in education, employment, or entrepreneurship.

Ecotourism/Agrotourism Development
The 12-week Certificate in Ecotourism/Agritourism Development at Claribel College equips farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, nature lovers, and aspiring tourism operators with the skills needed to design, manage, and market authentic, safe, and sustainable farm and nature-based visitor experiences. As demand grows for immersive tourism experiences in Jamaica, this practical programme explores ecotourism and agritourism opportunities, visitor expectations, cultural awareness, customer service, basic business planning, and linkages to the tourism value chain. Participants graduate with a practical Ecotourism or Agritourism Action Plan that can be implemented immediately.

Entrepreneurship and Small Business Operations
Do you have a business idea that could create jobs, solve local problems, or strengthen your community? The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Operations Certificate Programme is designed to help you turn your idea into a viable enterprise. This 12-week programme is ideal for youth and early-stage entrepreneurs who are ready to move beyond the idea stage. Participants gain essential business skills, practical training, and one-on-one mentorship, while working hands-on to develop and test their business concepts. Through live online interactive sessions, workshops, real-world assignments, and peer learning, participants build a solid foundation in entrepreneurship and compete for seed funding to support the launch of their businesses.

Event Planning and Management
Events such as festivals, carnivals, walkathons, conferences, and trade shows play a vital role in community life, cultural expression, fundraising, and professional engagement. The 12-week Certificate in Event Planning and Management at Claribel College is a practical, hands-on programme designed for individuals with event planning responsibilities as well as those aspiring to become professional event planners or event managers.
This interactive and hands-on programme equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and applied skills required to successfully design, plan, implement, and evaluate events of varying scale and purpose. Key areas of study include idea development and event conceptualization, marketing and promotion, sponsorship and budgeting, volunteer and stakeholder management, logistics, and event risk assessment and management.
Through real-world scenarios, guided activities, and practical exercises, participants will develop a comprehensive event plan and leave the course with ready-to-use templates, planning tools, and a customized event blueprint that can be immediately applied in professional, community, or entrepreneurial settings.

Using locally available tropical flowers and foliage, participants learn to create both simple and sophisticated floral arrangements for weddings, funerals, corporate events, hospitality spaces, and everyday retail sales. The programme emphasizes sustainable sourcing, Jamaican cultural aesthetics, and cost-effective design techniques.
In addition to design principles and flower care, participants gain essential business skills in pricing, customer service, marketing, and basic financial management. By the end of the programme, learners graduate with a floral design portfolio and a basic business plan, ready to launch or grow a floral business in Jamaica’s creative and tourism-driven economy.
